Roger and I recently had the privilege of taking a special trip for our 50th wedding anniversary. We saw many wonderful sights in Portugal, Bermuda, Belgium, and England, but the highlight for us was the opportunity we had to share the love of Christ. We had prayed, "Lord, if there is someone you want us to lead to Christ, then prepare the way."
God answered in a remarkable way. Because of some unusual circumstances, we had to get a taxi to take us 186 miles from Harwich to Stratford on Avon, England. On that trip we very quickly sensed that God wanted us to present the gospel to our driver, Robby. He explained that he didn't know anyone that went to church, that he had never had a Bible and didn't know anyone that did, except perhaps his grandfather and hotels! That broke my heart! Never to have been to church, never to hold a Bible in your hand! The Lord gave us the words to explain the Good News to him, and he said, "I've never heard that before. That's the most wonderful think I've ever heard." When we stopped for a coffee break, Robby said he wanted to put his trust in Christ. What a joyful occasion it was! He was so eager and so ready. God had planned our meeting in advance, and we all knew it! In Stratford we purchased a wonderful booklet explaining how to have assurance and how to walk with Christ through Bible reading and prayer and fellowship with Christians. When we got home, we sent Him a Bible and some other helpful books! He wants to let his light shine for his wife, children, and grandchildren. Please pray for our dear brother Robby May in Harwich, England.
Everywhere we went the Lord allowed us to share a word of testimony. We gave out the little tract "You've been kind" (published by JCMI) to waitresses, a construction worker, and hotel personnel. They received these with excitement and often hugged us and said "Thank you so much." Less that 5% of the English population attend any kind of church. That is shocking since many of the early missionaries came from England!
It was an added blessing to meet with Jonathan, our former student, who is a pastor in England, and ABWE missionaries David and Debby. They are dear people. We must pray for the Lord to send forth more laborers into these needy fields!
